Standing witness to great historical gatherings that took place within its walls, the Town Hall is a majestic building in the heart of Kolkata. Designed in a Palladian style by French military engineer Colonel Gastin, the Town Hall was opened to the public in 1814—the money for its construction being gathered through a public lottery. Currently the building is in the midst of restoration and houses a museum called Kolkata Panorama as well as a library on Calcutta started with the personal collection of Mr. P.T. Nair, a barefoot historian and researcher. The Museum is separated into 19 enclaves and provides an insight into the cultural richness of the city including the social and tumultuous freedom movement.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
