Seems like selfie craze has taken over Indian Railways too. As per reports, the Railways is planning to improve basic facilities at nearly 70 railway stations across India by the end of 2018. The proposal stated selfie points at railway stations, better LED lighting to brighten up major areas, charging points, and provision of lifts and escalators, among others as some of the prime ‘need of the hour’ facilities. The Indian Railway Station Development Corporation (IRSDC) is already working with private firms on the refurbishment of about 600 railway stations. Indian Railways has also taken the responsibility for the redevelopment of 70 stations, including stations at Mumbai, Lucknow, Varanasi, Jaipur, Delhi, and Mysore, to name a few.
In his letter to General Managers of various railway zones, Railway Board Chairman Ashwani Lohani said, “It has been Railway’s endeavour to redevelop railway stations to provide an enhanced and richer experience to the passenger. About 600 stations have been identified for this purpose across Indian Railways, which will be assigned to IRSDC shortly. However, as a parallel measure, it has been decided to develop about 70 stations through zonal railways separately.”

Another railway official mentioned that all the work should be completed by the end of this year, that is December 2018. The circulating area outside the railway station will be redeveloped in order to give properly regulated lanes for parking and guests pick up/drop. He also said that steel dustbins will be for at regular intervals for a proper garbage pickup and disposal system.
So if everything goes as per plan, we’ll see people taking selfies at various Indian railway stations in no time at designated selfie points!
