Pera Museum

Never heard of the word Orientalism? That’s why the Pera Museum is here! For centuries everything east of the Mediterranean was referred to as Oriental by Europeans. This includes Turkey onwards through all of what we now know today as Asia.
Orientalism art is artwork dating back to the 17th to 19th century, created by Europeans that portrayed scenes from what was then referred to as the Orient. The third floor of the Pera Museum is home to an impressive collection of Orientalism paintings depicting the royal elegance and daily life of the Ottoman Empire. But it doesn’t stop there, as you can also find works of pottery, tiles, ceramics, and Anatolian scales. There is also a mesmerising photograph collection spanning the 19th and 20th centuries on the fourth and fifth floors. Pera Museum may be on the small side, but there is a lot packed in these five floors, including a steady supply of fresh temporary exhibits.

Get Cultured: The museum closes at 7pm, but has a tradition known as Long Friday where every Friday entry is free from 6pm until 10pm. What’s better than getting dose of culture for free?
