This is the only international airport in the country, and the move is likely to affect travel plans for travellers from all across the world. Renovation, mainly upgradation of the runway here, has been cited as the reason for the same.
As per the sources, the 3 km runway in question was constructed in 1980 and has never been renovated or upgraded ever since. There were reports of the surface peeling off from different stretches of the same runway. Apart from upgrading it, there are plans to expand it as well, a welcome move considering the ever-increasing number of travellers flocking to the Himalayan country from around the world.
