Baldwin Street in Dunedin, New Zealand is amazing in every sense and corner! After all being the steepest street in the world is not an easy task and living here has its own pros and cons. According to Guinness World Records, this 350 meters long street is officially the world's steepest residential road and the slope has an incline of 35%! Can you imagine the life of people living here? What do they go through on a daily basis and how do they manage their every day activity?
Given its Guinness World Records, the street has become one of the prime tourist attractions in the whole of Dunedin and New Zealand. People from all over visit the city just to drive on the street. Some even try to conquer it on foot but it gets really difficult and impossible.
However, there have been mishaps too on this dangerous street. A 19-year-old girl died when she and with one of her friends tried to travel down the street inside a wheelie bin, back in the year 2001. The bin lost control and ran into a parked trailer and the girl was killed on the spot while her friend suffered several serious head injuries.
Besides, good things also take place here. Every year, a charity event is held on the street when people roll down hundreds of chocolates down the street. And the money raised in the event is then donated at a local charity.
