If you’re an antique lover or looking for some classic Thai wooden furniture stop by JJ Market on Atsadathon Road. While not nearly as large as Baan Tawai, the market, which is housed in a complex of different buildings, offers Thai treasures you won’t find in other shops and stores. If you’re an antique lover or looking for some classic Thai wooden furniture stop by JJ Market on Atsadathon Road. Turn off the outer road at the northeast corner of the moat, after a couple four-way intersections, JJ Market will be on your right. While not nearly as large as Baan Tawai, the market, which is housed in a complex of different buildings, offers Thai treasures you won’t find in other shops and stores. From furniture and home decor, to elaborate wooden spirit houses and vintage knick-knacks, you never know what you’ll come across. The secondhand and vintage items found here are decidedly different from the cheaply made, plastic goods now commonly sold throughout Southeast Asia. What’s more, is that the market doesn’t see many tourists which means you often have a better chance of finding authentic goods and prices. Additionally, the area around the market is filled with open-air Thai-style bars known for their beer specials— you can often get three large bottles at a promotional price—and popular with a younger crowd. With funky decor, live music, drinking snacks and plenty of people, the bar scene is worlds away from the backpacker or tourist bars you’re used to seeing.
