Almost in the centre of the Southside of the French Quarter, Jackson Square is like the pivot around which the entire place revolves. The square itself is a huge park facing the beautiful St Louis Cathedral and is filled with greenery. In the centre is a huge statue of former president Andrew Jackson after whom the park is named. However what is fascinating about the square is that it is surrounded by wide avenues on three sides which are buzzing with activity through the day. The park’s fences are utilized by artists to hang their art works while the avenues are used by mime artistes, buskers, bands, tarot card readers, caricaturists, and many other kinds of performers and even pushcarts with street food.
