Winter in Paris are, almost, synonymous with ice-skating rinks and several of these pop up around the city as soon as the holiday season approaches. The Christmas Market at the Trocadero Gardens near the Eiffel Tower plays host to the best rink of them all. The 300 sq m rink, albeit slippery and somewhat crowded, is a treat for amateur skaters and is free, unless of course you need to rent a skate, which comes for around 10 Euros. Extremely catchy music plays in the background as you glide through the ice and prevent yourself from bumping into strangers. And it’s okay even if you do, as the holidays tend to bring everyone together.
When to go: December 12 to January 5. Afternoons and early evenings are the best.
