If you have ever wanted to learn how to fly fish, there is no better place than the Bow River that runs right through Calgary. It is Alberta’s best trout fishery and features trout that range from 16-18 inches and many that exceed that. Fly fishing here can present you with the opportunity to not only catch rainbow and brown trout, but also to experience some surreal landscapes. We definitely recommend joining a guided fly fishing tour to learn the inns and outs. Opt for any of the guide companies here, they will pick you up from your hotel and take you to get your required fishing licence, and then head to the launch site. Most of them will head out into a drift boat where you will spend time learning about how to actually fly fish. You will wade through the river, catch lots of fish and experience new things. Most companies offer the chance to go out for half a day or full day, which can lead to up to 10 hours of fishing. If you prefer to watch the action instead of getting in on it, then you could head down to the river and watch the fly fisherman cast their lines, as it’s truly something to be admired.
