My first experience of the gondola is not in Whistler, but in a town called Squamish, 45 km away. Flying at an altitude of 885 m, I see the hazy blue of the Howe Sound Fjord along with the coastal forest and the mountains. In eight minutes, I have a bird’s eye view of the entire region that was once home to the Coast Salish First Nations People. But the most adventurous gondola ride is what takes you from one peak to another. Whistler located in the Coast Mountains of British Columbia has two mountains―Whistler and Blackcomb, both entrenched in ancient history. The 4.4 km ride takes you to the rooftop of British Columbia, giving you a breathtaking view of the valley below. The 11-minute ride takes you to new heights as you touch the summit for this is the highest lift in the world swinging at 1427 feet above the forest floor.
