Fondation Beyeler

From the centre of the city, a 20-minute tram ride takes you outside Basel to the tiny rustic village of Riehen. A few minutes out of Basel and the scenery drastically changes. The urban trappings give way to picture-postcard settings with rolling green meadows where brown and white cows graze nonchalantly. In between are typical Swiss half-timbered houses with bright red or dark brown sloping roof. Effortlessly segueing into this scene is Fondation Beyeler Museum, a red sandstone building by architect Renzo Piano, which sits amidst the lush greenery of Berower Park. On display is an amazing collection of artworks by some of the world’s best known artists, including Monet, Cezanne, Van Gogh, Miro, Picasso, Giacometti, Gustave Courbet, Rothko, Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein, Jackson Pollock, Kandinsky and many, many more.
