This cricket ground located on Bahadur Shah Zafar marg and gets its name from the fort that forms its backdrop. This vintage cricket complex also happens to be the second oldest international cricket stadium that is still functional in the country after Eden Gardens in Kolkata.Roshnara Club Named after the youngest daughter of Shah Jahan, Begum Roshnara, the Roshnara Club is part of both Delhi’s history as well as sports heritage. It was built in 1922 by the British next to Civil Lines in North Delhi, where they were setting up the residences for their own bureaucrats.
The club is also the birthplace of the Board of Control for Cricket in India or the BCCI. Initial regulars of the club included the who’s who of Indian politics; Jawaharlal Nehru, VV Giri, Dr Rajendra Prasad, among others. It has badminton courts, basket ball courts, billiard room, cricket grounds and academy, squash court, swimming pool, table tennis, lawn tennis (hard courts and grass courts) and a yoga hut. There are recreational facilities as well including a card room, library, lounge and spa.
Incidentally, the complex also houses the tomb of Roshnara, called the Baradari. It has Mughal style gardens and fountains built all around. Incidentally, the British altered a large portion of the gardens to carve out a club that was to serve as a recreational retreat for their officers. They, however, preserved the Baradari and it stands till today.
