If you’d rather kick back and enjoy moving at an easy pace, there are sevral things to do in Havana that don’t involve sticking to a tight itinerary. Get away from the concrete clutter by escaping to the tranquil environs at El Jardín Botánico Nacional, where you can observe an incredible variety of plants and even dine at the all-vegetarian restaurant just off the premises, where most of the ingredients are sourced from the gardens; drive an hour out to hike through the verdant 5000-hectare-expanse of Las Terrazas (Cuba’s eco-capital); or rent one of the 60,000 pastel-coloured, pre-1960s vintage American cars and drive the 20-odd-km to Playas del Este to spend the day sun-bathing on the beautiful white beach with turquoise waters lapping at your feet—a vacation in Havana can be as busy or relaxing as you’d like it to be.
