Giving great relief to commuters from West Delhi, Delhi metro will make direct ride to the South Delhiās IIT, Vasant Vihar, Munirka, and RK Puram, possible. This will happen when the Delhi Metro Magenta Line (Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden) connecting Noida with west Delhi becomes operational. As per the plans, the expected time for the operation of Magenta Line route is by end of March 2018.
The Janakpuri West metro station has become an interchange station to provide connectivity to travellers coming from South Delhi and Noida.
āThe interchange station will be the first station of the Janakpuri West-Botanical Garden corridor of Phase 3 which will connect Line 3 with important locations such as the Terminal 1 of the IGI Airport, Munirka, Hauz Khas, Nehru Place, and Botanical Garden in Noida. About 53,700 additional commuters are expected to use the new interchange station by the year 2017. Presently, about 15,000 commuters use the Janakpuri West Metro station every day,ā said a spokesperson for Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC).

To provide connectivity to the commuters, Sadar Bazar near Palam, and Shankar Vihar between the Domestic Airport and Vasant Vihar were also included to cater to the needs of locals around. Also, for the smooth concourse, long elevators have also been installed similar to ones installed at (Kashmere Gate station).
According to DMRC, the stretch from Janakpuri West to Palam was initially planned as an elevated one. But the alignment was converted to underground due to technical reasons.
As of now Dabri Mor, Dashrathpuri, Palam, Sadar Bazar Cantonment and Terminal 1 ā IGI Airport are only elevated station of this stretch.
As stated by the spokesperson, the new Magenta line will, therefore, essentially help in reducing congestion on Line 3 and on the Rajiv Chowk Metro station. Thereby easing the journey, will almost take the same time from Janakpuri West to Botanical Garden by both the corridors. Tunnelling, as well as the construction work for the station, has been completed.
