Buda Castle forms the skyline of Buda side of Budapest. This historical complex was built on Buda hill top (also known as Castle Hill) in 13th century as a royal palace for Hungarian kings. Castle Hill is a major tourist attraction with presence of Gothic styled Buda Castle, Baroque churches and medieval arches and residential complexes. The castle itself is huge and contains art gallery and a museum. If you do not have time to explore the inside, it is worth taking a stroll around Buda Castle. Walk around on cobblestone streets of Castle Hill and soak up the history of Hungarian kingdom. The castle makes an imposing panorama from the Pest side, shining bright golden yellow with the evening light decorations. On St Stephen’s Day, celebrated on 20th August, the castle organises folk shows and cultural events inside its premises. After the folk shows, all the dancers walk out on streets in traditional attires and march across the Chain Bridge. Do not miss this extravaganza if you are in Budapest on that day!
