Rameshwaram has many beaches being located alongside the coast. The Ariyaman Beach is located on the road that leads you to Rameshwaram and is a quiet, calm beach. It is hidden from the main road so you will have to keep an eye for the small sign boards while driving. This is a shallow beach with no waves and is serene and quiet and has large casuarina trees The beach also has a park for children, a watch tower and water sports including parasailing, wind surfing and water scooters. An aquarium, museum and boating facility are also available here so this is a great destination for families. The other great option is the Dhanushkodi Beach which is another stunning sea front at the south western tip India that is very close to Sri Lanka. To access this beach, you will need to take a 4 wheel drive through the sands that lead you to the ruins of old settlements that also has the ruins of an old church. Before you want to visit this place, do check with the local authorities as this area is communally sensitive. The 1964 cyclone battered Dhanuskodi to such an extent that it is now dubbed as a ghost town. This place is in the Gulf of Mannar and is the spot that is the confluence of Indian Ocean and the Bay of Bengal! The effort is however worth it and you will be rewarded with sights that reflect pristine beauty.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
