An iconic diner based on the movie ‘American Graffiti’ by George Lucas, Mel’s is all about the classic 50s vibe. Their jukebox belts out catchy tunes from the days of yore and pretty vintage cars line the curb outside. Mel’s is a brilliant place to click pictures with these elegant vehicles and enjoy calorie-laden staples like hamburgers, cheeseburgers, onion rings, bacon, fries, chicken sandwiches, thick milkshakes and root-beer floats. Situated at the end of the ‘Hollywood Boulevard’ inside the Universal Studios theme park, this diner seems so believably authentic that you might start wondering if you have mysteriously been transported to the good old days of the United States of America. The only downside is that this place is expensive and terribly so but given how all restaurants inside theme parks are ridiculously costly, you could perhaps just focus on the delicious food and the ambience. The portions are huge and a single meal will keep you full for a good couple of hours. However, do yourself a favour and don’t get on rides after drinking their sinful milkshakes. If you are visiting the park during Halloween, do not forget to get a good view of the gigantic neon ‘Mel’s Dine-in’ sign. In order to keep up with the theme, it is purposefully made to read ‘Die In’ instead of ‘Dine In’.
