Manhattan's most extroverted hotel
Talk of the town: Floor-to-ceiling windows offer views of the High Line and the Hudson River - and give curious passers-by the chance to check out the hotel's hip clientèle.
The Standard is arguably the hottest destination in New York right now - and with the Meatpacking District showing no signs of relinquishing its place as the city's nightlife center, expect the hotel to hold on to its title for a while longer.
Perched atop the elevated High Line park on metal stilts, the building itself is striking enough - but the lobby goes even further, with a bold mish-mash of 20th century styles and some of the trendiest staff you've ever seen.
With four bars (including the infamous Top of the Standard, formerly the Boom Boom Room) packed full of celebrities and fashion types, plus a well-regarded bistro, you probably won't spend much time in your well-appointed room. That might be just as well: this is a 24-hour party scene, and peace and quiet can be hard to come by. At The Standard, it's all about the adrenaline rush.
