Celebrate the unique traditions and culture of New Orleans
In New Orleans, there's always an excuse for a party or a parade. February's Mardi Gras is certainly the largest and most well-known festival, but only one of scores in the city's annual calendar.
March 17: St. Patrick's Day means parades in the French Quarter and street parties in the Irish Channel.
April (second week): The French Quarter Festival sees Jackson Square and other venues filled with free events and concerts.
March/April: The internationally renowned Jazz Fest sees jazz lovers throng streets and venues for 10 days.
May: Head to the banks of the Bayou for free music at the Bayou Boogaloo.
June: The Vieux To Do weekender hosts three free festivals: the Cajun-Zydeco music festival; The Creole Tomato Festival; and the The Louisiana Seafood Festival.
July 14: The French influence means Bastille Day is a big one here.
August: The Satchmo Summer Fest in the French Quarter commemorates and celebrates New Orleans' most famous son.
