Talk of the town: The museum's annual MAM Ball in early December attracts Miami's elite, and the art world's most famous luminaries.
For a relatively young museum - the collection only began in 1996 - Miami Art Museum (MAM) has become one of the city's most important, and is soon to be one of the most architecturally impressive. Currently located in Downtown Miami, as of November 2013 it will become the Perez Art Museum Miami (PAMM) in a dramatic new location on Biscayne Bay. The USD 220million building was thought-up by Pritzker-Prize-winning Swiss architects Herzog & deMeuron, the stars behind London's Tate Modern, and has been called a "bravura" piece of design work.

In the meantime, you can still see the 20th and 21st-century collection of works by the likes of Marcel Duchamp, Ana Mendieta, and Frank Stella. Largely curated to represent Miami city, as well as emphasizing the culture of the entire Atlantic Rim, the ever-growing art collection always includes a portion created by local South Florida artists.
