Typical of a famous tourism destination, Kumily (or Thekkady), the base town to visit Periyar National Park, is inundated with guest houses and hotels over a range of budget. Though this town is not that significantly big, there are ample options for travellers to choose from. Since this place has no dearth of accommodation options, travellers are sure to find what suits their pocket. From home-run guesthouses to top-notch starred hotels, the unassuming town is home to a vast array of accommodations. The main road leading up to the sanctuary is where most of the hotels are based and offer similar facilities and activities like jungle safaris, elephant rides and spice plantation trips. Discretionary travellers should look beyond this to choose a hotel; they should go for something which is characterful and inclined towards preservation of local culture, and wildlife. To that hotels like Spice Village by CGH Earth and the KSTDC options, deliver well. Home-run guesthouses and hotels add a degree of Kerala hospitality. Though there are few of these in Kumily and many travellers opt for these over more usual hotels. Unfortunately the destination is pegged as a one-day stop on the Kerala itineraries, but the place commands at least 3-4 days for one to explore conveniently.
