A prison converted into a hotel, Karosta Prison can be counted amongst the world’s most unique hotels. According to history, many prisoners died in this prison, most shot in the head, and thus many consider it haunted. At this unique accommodation option, not only do guests get to spend a night in a prison cell but also get treated as inmates. Guests need to sign a lengthy agreement, which allows the hotel staff to force them to do physical exercise and other things, and if they disobey, they are shown to their room, featuring iron bars and not more than a bed and toilet. Don’t despair though, the service is world-class. And if you can’t stomach the thought of eating prison food and sleeping in a cell, then you can always go for the daytime tour.
