Reykjavik's most stately sleepWord to the wise: On special occasions, stump for the tower suite, which boasts a circular lounge with a 360-degree panoramic view of the city.
Commissioned by a strong-man in in the 1930s to time with the millennium celebrations of Iceland's first parliament, Hótel Borg enjoys prime position overlooking Austurvöllur Square in the centre of Reykjavik's quaint old town.
Recently refurbished, the art deco dame's smart, stately rooms are furnished in monochrome with coffee-coloured accents. Black-and-white pictures of bygone Reykjavik scenes decorate the walls, and the marble bathrooms have luxurious monsoon showers. For those with adventurous palates, in-house fine dining restaurant Silfur offers world-class cuisine, and the Icelandic Bar just outside is a cosy spot for a drink.
