Also known as Grahame’s Place, Sultan’s Choice Foods may not be the most modern or prepossessing, but when it comes to sniffing out authentic Indian ingredients, it’s de rigueur for the discerning foodie. Owner Grahame Sadler has been the go-to guy for Indian produce for more than 25 years, and continues to be the exclusive importer for such brands as Daawat (basmati rice), although he has branched out to include more Mauritian products such as vanilla trees, cassava biscuits, and even smoked snoek fish, in his repertoire. Owner Grahame Sadler has been the go-to guy for Indian produce for more than 25 years, and continues to be the exclusive importer for such brands as Daawat (basmati rice), although he has branched out to include more Mauritian products such as vanilla trees, cassava biscuits, and even smoked snoek fish, in his repertoire. That’s not to say the Indian range has become any less comprehensive; you’ll still find the full gamut of ingredients, from spices, flours, and sauces, to dhall, paratha and plenty of sambals and chutneys. Do also make time for a chat with Grahame; his gregarious personality is almost as fabled as his knowledge of the Indian subcontinent.
