The pioneer of Indian cuisine in Hong Kong, Gaylord opened its doors back in 1972, and remains a favourite with curry-loving locals even to this day. The ambience is perfectly matched to the cuisine—warm, intimate and comforting—and musicians drum up Indian tunes every night, amidst the tastefully decorated interiors which seem insulated from the outside world on the first floor of a nondescript building in Tsim Sha Tsui. Although the menu offers all the usual Indian delicacies, we recommend ordering something a little off the beaten path—Gaylord offers a vast selection of dishes that are hard to come by outside of their native country. Try the laal maas (a mutton delicacy from Rajasthan), saag paneer (an authentic rendition of the more common palak paneer), chicken vindaloo and the extremely rich and filling cream prawn curry—alongside an order of garlic naan, mixed pickle and raita to douse the spice. Offering fine dining at affordable prices, Gaylord is definitely worth the trek from Hong Kong island.
