The homogeny of chain restaurants can often be as boring as beige, but in some cases, exceptions must be made, and this is certainly true of Nature’s Vegetarian Restaurant. Despite having a smattering of outposts around the Klang Valley, the quality and consistency of Nature’s food remains uniformly impressive, and an exhaustive Chinese vegetarian menu includes dim sum and an a la carte selection that is imaginative in its marrying of ingredients. Monkey head mushrooms are simply braised to highlight their innate flavor, the mutton curry with sweet mantou buns yields flavours that are as feisty as they are vivacious, and their signature fried goose dish (it often runs out as a result of demand exhausting supply) advocates the use of fucuk (tofu skins) to great effect. Wild rice substitutes the pedestrian white variety, and the special homemade noodles are enticingly springy and exquisitely delicious. Thanks to Nature’s, envisaging a world without meat becomes infinitely easier.
