Steps are being taken to bring the famed Mughal Gardens of Srinagar on the prestigious list of UNESCO World Heritage Site. Muneer-ul-Islam, Director of Archives & Archaeology, who holds the charge of Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Academy of Art, Culture and Languages (JKAACL), informed that the department is working toward the said direction. He mentioned this while attending an interactive session with renowned Conservation Architect Narian Lambha that was organised by JKAACL and Department of Archives, Archaeology, and Museums in Srinagar. He stated that substantial efforts are being made to bring Mughal Gardens on the prestigious list, and that his department is working together to promote and preserve the heritage of the valley.
He added that as of now the primary motive is to present the nomination dossier for Mughal Gardens as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and discussions with the Jammu and Kashmir stakeholders are being held for the same.
Owing to their prominence and historical significance, including them in the prestigious list would garner them with much deserved international attention, which will eventually enable them to fulfil the purpose for which they were built.
