This could be your wildlife vacation of a lifetime that you have been dreaming of. The Tortugero is packed with mangroves on swamps, beaches, and backwater lagoons. The climate is always humid. Reaching here in a bus or driving can be a day long affair as this is one of the farthest points from San Jose in Costa Rica, almost bordering Nicaragua in the north. If you still haven't guessed it, The Tortugero is a natural habitat for sea turtles spreading over a coastline of roughly 32 km. If you happen to be here during the winter months starting from February until late June, or early July, it is recommended that you visit the national park and volunteer to preserve, and be a vigilante for the turtle egg laying and hatching periods. The extremely diverse fauna is bound to keep you alert spotting crocodiles, caimans, jaguars, white-headed capuchin, and three-toed sloths.
