Explore the unique architecture of Munich’s smallest church – Also known as Asamkirche in German, Asam Church is the smallest, but the most important church in Munich. It was built in 1733 by the Asam brothers as their private chapel with lavish decorations. The Baroque facade of the church is quite unusual for a church. The architects Cosmas Damian Asam and Egid Quirin Asam used their own imagination and ideas to design this tiny extravagant house of worship. The church drew severe criticism for its private status, and was soon opened to the public after protests by the locals. The opulent interiors make up for the unassuming exterior of the church. The vivid frescoes designed by Cosmas Asam adorn the ceiling and interior walls, which are lavishly decorated from top to bottom. The Asam House adjacent to the church was the residential quarter of the family. Visit this unique church of Asam brothers and it will remind you of how independent it was from the general architectural rules surrounding a church building. The masterpiece is truly dedicated to the glory of god.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
