As iconic as Beijing’s Tiananmen Square or the Piazza del Popolo in Rome, the Alexander Platz and the TV Tower does not qualify as a destination in itself but nevertheless is a ubiquitous presence reminding tourists of the many demonstrations that took place here finally resulting in the fall of the Iron Curtain. Berlin’s main Stasi prison is another reminder of its tumultuous past, even featured in the 2006 production ‘Lives of Others’. Right from the Brandenburg Gate to Reichstag which happens to be the German Parliament, Berlin offers its visitors many interesting sights. There’s even a cheap replica of the Eiffel Tower: the Funkturm, not your grandest but definitely a good place to catch some breathtaking views of the city. If you’ve not had your fill of historic sights, you could stop over at the century old Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church that is presently undergoing a makeover. Nevertheless, the over 22000 pieces of blue stained glass in this structure are a clear draw for tourists.
