The San Cristobal Church in Cusco sits pretty on a hilltop. It lies within walking distance from Saksaywaman and is a short uphill hike from the city centre. You can either opt for the steep stairs or can walk up the long, winding road. If you’re not in a mood to exercise, just take a cab and then later walk it down to Plaza de Armas. If you do decide to walk, the view from the top will make you forget the climb. It is spectacular!! You will be able to see the entire city of Cusco in a glance. Be sure to climb up the bell tower for an even prettier view of the city. For us, visiting San Cristobal Church was the highlight of our trip to Cusco.
Narrow, cobbled streets and small alleyways give a distinctive charm to the area. The architecture of the church is distinctly Spanish and reflects Spanish art of the times. San Cristobal Church’s interiors are well preserved and richly decorated with beautiful paintings. There is a small entrance fee for going inside the church. But we’d suggest you not to pay it—the view from outside is as good as it is from inside the church. Clicking photos is not allowed inside, except in the bell tower.
