Prague Castle is undoubtedly the most famous castle in the Czech Republic because it’s the biggest and oldest of them of all. Strangely, it doesn’t look like a medieval castle, showcasing a patchwork of buildings from different eras, including St. Vitus Cathedral, St. George's Basilica, the quaint 15th century Golden Lane and the evolving Old Royal Palace. You would at least need half a day to explore the place, from chamber to chamber and garden to garden. While you do so, do not forget to stop by the entrances, the north entrance where the stiffly posed guards make for a spiffy picture or two, and the south entrance plaza where there’s some kind of musical performance happening every other day. Strolling across the grounds is free. However, entry to a few parts of the castle is chargeable.
