Vitosha

Vitosha, is a mountain that towers over the city of Sofia and it’s hard to miss it. The mountain, which boasts of over 10 peaks, was formed as a result of volcanic activity. For most locals, it makes for a quick skiing getaway. But for visitors to Sofia who have limited time on hand, Vitosha makes for a perfect day trip. Lovely views, fresh mountain air and gravel paths provide lots of walking opportunities. The Vitosha Nature Park has several hiking and walking trails. In winter, it is possible to head to the slopes for a bit of skiing. Vitosha is also home to Bulgria’s longest cave—Duhlata. It’s easy to combine this with another thing to see in the area, i.e., Boyana Waterfall.
The charm of Vitosha and its surroundings makes it ideal for a visit anytime of the year. However, do make sure you carry woollens while visiting Vitosha even during summer months.
