The Hindu temple of Pashupatinath, or Pashupati is located on the banks of Bagmati River in Deopatan. Dedicated to Lord Shiva, known as Pashupati (Lord of Animals), the temple attracts thousands of pilgrims every year. Strangely, the temple doesn’t allow non-Hindus to enter but can be seen from the opposite side of the bank of the river. It is not quite clear when the temple was built but as per historical records, it was constructed during the Somadeva Dynasty in the 3rd century BC, and the first written record was found from the 13th century. Pashupatinath is listed on World heritage site since 1979 and received minimal damage during the earthquake. The Jyotirlinga is one of the 275 holy abodes of Shiva in the continent. The place gets crowded during the main festival of Shivaratri when thousands of devotees visit the temple to seek blessings.Refrain from posting comments that are obscene, defamatory or inflammatory, and do not indulge in personal attacks, name calling or inciting hatred against any community.
