The heart of Indonesia lies in its rustic villages. Visit Flores, one of the popular islands and the base to travel to Komodo island from Labuan Bajo, and head to Melo Village to get a taste of the hospitality of the people. You can watch a local Caci dance and have lunch with the villagers while they share their cultural traditions with you. Walking around the rustic landscape will effortlessly impress you. If you are a photographer, then this is a place you must not miss. And while you are there, you can volunteer in one of the local schools with Taman Bacaan Pelangi or Rainbow Reading Gardens who run libraries in the village schools. For me it was one of the most fulfilling experiences, spending time with the kids in the school who seem to connect India with Bollywood.
