Maiden's Tower

One of the most iconic buildings in all of Istanbul, the Maiden’s Tower is a must visit. Its history dates back to the 12th century, although the current stone structure was built in the 1760s, after the prior wooden structure was repeatedly destroyed by earthquake and fires. There is an interesting legend that explains how the structure came to be known as Maiden’s Tower, which you can hear upon visiting.
The main appeal of Maiden’s Tower is that it is located on an islet in the Bosphorus in between Europe and Asia. Walking around the beautiful grounds provides some amazing photo opportunities, however the best vantage point is from upstairs. This area has been turned into a café, and sometimes can be quite crowded, so visiting on weekdays or non-peak hours is recommended.
