The winding road that leads into Madikeri sets the tone and the immense natural beauty with rolling hills, forested visats, coffee plantations, lush green valleys and streams only adds to it. Located in the Western Ghats, about 120 km West of Mysore, Madikeri is like a typical hill town with the added charm and culture of Kodavas. Madikeri is the shortened form of Muddurajakeri (Mudduraja’s town), named after the most famous Haleri dynasty kings who ruled over the area from 1600 to 1834 AD. The most famous sights here are the Raja’s Seat, offering a breathtaking view of hills and valleys, the ruined but still majestic fort, and Abbey Falls, a rushing fall located inside a coffee plantations.
