Located on the Southern coast of Athens is an oasis, a well-kept secret and a place you must visit while in the city. Lake Vouliagmeni is a lake, part saltwater and part spring water that sits at around 22-25 degrees Celsius all year around. Consisting of thermal waters, underground tunnels and lush green vegetation, this spot is truly one of the gems of Athens. The water is known for its healing properties and as part of your spa experience, small tiny fishes will eat up the dead skin from your body as you relax in the water. There is also a restaurant on site if you want to eat or drink. What makes this place so mysterious is its history that dates back to the late 1960’s when some American scuba divers went missing while exploring the undersea caves that feed the lake. Some thirty-five years later, their bodies were found. Today, the underwater cave has been explored up to 3,123 metres over 14 tunnels and they still have not found the cave’s end. The blue green waters are stunning to look at andrelaxing and this spot is great for rejuvenation.
