In breaking news, it has been announced by the Indian Railways and some of the prime domestic airlines that they will start accepting bookings from April 15, 2020. This is the day when Indian PM Narendra Modi’s 21-day-lockdown comes to an end. Read less
According to a railway official, there has been a clear indication from the Centre that the lockdown will not be extended beyond April 14, so they have started accepting bookings from April 15.
Also, several media reports mentioned that travel agents are getting enquiries for flight and tour bookings. The government has clarified that the lockdown won’t extend beyond April 14. On March 22, it was announced by the Indian Railways that they won’t take any bookings till March 31. But later, after PM’s lockdown announcement, it was extended till April 14.
As per a senior government official,“IRCTC is accepting booking from April 15, naturally when the lockdown is till April 14.” He further said that they will have to bring back the workforce gradually after the lockdown is over.
When it comes to airlines, some private airlines such as SpiceJet, GoAir and IndiGo are showing bookings open from April 15 for domestic travel and no international flights. Though there has been no official announcement by the airlines yet, the online booking portals are showing availability from April 15.
In India, till now, the pandemic has infected 2032 people and has claimed 58 lives. As per the statistics, 148 people have also recovered from the Coronavirus.
