The charming hill station Matheran in Maharashtra enjoys excellent connectivity with cities like Mumbai and Pune, so how to reach Matheran is not a difficult task. Since, the destination doesn’t have a railway station or airport, it is served by Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport and Pune Airport are the nearest airheads to the hill station. By air:
By road:
Buses of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) provides regular services from nearby cities such as Mumbai, Pune, Nasik and Kolhapur, to list a few to Matheran. The buses stop before 2.5 km from the city and one need to either trek or take horse or rickshaw to cover the rest of the journey. You can also take cabs or taxis from Mumbai and Pune to reach this lovely hill area. Those driving from Mumbai can take Mumbai-Pune Expressway route to reach Matheran.
By train:
Matheran by train can be a beautiful journey as the nearest railhead is at Neral (21 km) and from here one can choose to take the toy train that takes around 2 hours to reach the hill station. Several trains run from Pune and Mumbai to Neral. Another convenient option is taking cab or taxis from the railway station which is a 30-minute journey. So have this toy train experience which will only add fun to your trip!
