More than just the backdrop to 'Legally Blonde'
Word to the wise: The unofficial 'Hahvahd Tour' is 70 gossipy minutes long, led by two student guides who can quip and walk backwards, and is free with a suggested tip of USD 10 per person.

World-famous with an endowment rivaling the GDP of several small nations, Harvard exists in the popular imagination as a nerd’s nirvana, a bastion of preppy elitism, and the college where dropouts include the founders of Apple and Facebook.
But even if you’re not a groupie for the professors who are rock-stars in their fields, you can enjoy a walk through this historic, photogenic campus, with its tree-shaded paths and imposing architecture spanning three centuries. The Widener Library only admits those with Harvard IDs, but visitors can have their photos taken on the entrance steps, which span the width of the classically designed building.

Alumni include presidents, third world despots, Nobel laureates, and Hollywood actors. Those visitors who aren’t would-be students hoping for an admissions hook-up or ambitious parents shopping for Harvard baby rattles may prefer the gossip behind such a mythic university. That requires one of the popular student-led tours.
