A winding path leading you past 16 historic sites, the Freedom Trail is not only an introduction to Boston and its early days, but also to the nation's bloody struggle for independence from Britain. Sites include museums, churches, burial grounds, landscaped parks, and a ship, among others.

For lovers of historical re-enactment, you can tour the trail with one of the Freedom Trail Foundation's very informative guides, who act the parts of revolutionary era Bostonians. If being led around by someone clad in authentic 18th century polyester sounds a bit corny to you, you can equally walk the trail alone at your own pace.
