Reportedly, Pramod Sawant, Chief Minister Goa, has said that the Goa government is looking to move its off-shore casinos out of the Mandovi River. However, the state government is yet to decide on an alternate site.
The decision to move the casinos out of the Mandovi viver has been taken after a section of people demanded the shift. Now, the six casinos are waiting for a green light on the alternative location.
Apart from the Mandovi river casinos, there are certain Goan hotels that also run casinos. Of course, Goa attracts numerous tourists each year, especially during year-end. Now, with six offshore casinos unsure of their future, we can only hope that the casinos are ready to roll out in November end this year.
According to law, casinos can only be set up at 5-star hotels and offshore vessels, after seeking permission from the government. This is set in accordance with the Goa, Daman and Diu Public Gambling Act, 1976. Other places, apart from Goa, where you can gamble are Daman and Sikkim.
