Holding the title of the second highest brickwork tower in the world, the Church of Our Lady in Bruges has the tallest spire in Belgium. Taking over 200 years to build from the 13-15th century, it is the home of two gilded tombs of a duke and his daughter, but most people come to see the statue of Madonna and Child. The church also contains a painting of the Crucifixion of Christ by Anthony van Dyck and a rococo extravaganza of a pulpit, designed by Bruges artist Jan Antoon Garemijn. Made of white marble, this is a treasured sculpture created by Michelangelo around 1504. Home to many stunning works of art, a long, beautiful nave, and tall, magnificent ceilings make for an exquisite peek into the medieval past of the country.
