Tourists have been thronging the city of Chandigarh ever since it became a UNESCO World Heritage destination for its Capitol Complex buildings in the year 2016. As per the statistics, Chandigarh has witnessed a 25 per cent increased tourist footfall in the past many months.
Chandigarh Capitol Complex is situated in Sector 1 of Chandigarh. It is a government compound designed by architect Le Corbusier, covering an area of 100 acres. It has three monuments including the Palace of Assembly or Legislative Assembly, S Open Hand Monument, Secretariat, High Court, Geometric Hill and Tower of Shadows as well as three buildings and a lake.
Not just the Chandigarh Capitol Complex, there are a few other places that are worth exploring in Chandigarh. For example, the Rock Garden is a park known for its stone sculptures, industrial relics and recycled ceramics. Sukhna Lake is an artificial reservoir for jogging and pedal boating. However, the lake has lost its pristine beauty due to excessive pollution.
Zakir Hussain Rose Garden and Government Museum and Art Gallery are also popular places of tourist interest. For tourists with a religious bent of mind, Chandi Devi and Mansa Devi temples are also worth visiting. These two shrines are located away from the city in the middle of lots of greenery and quietness.
