Arch of Triumph

The origin of the Arch of Triumph in Bucharest dates back to the Romanian Independence in 1878, when a wooden arch was built on the same location as it is found today, so that a military parade could march below it. After several rounds, the final arch visible today was finished in 1936. It's designed according to the classical style and clearly inspired by the Arch of Triumph in Paris. The arch features bas-reliefs and stone carvings realised by famous Romanian sculptors depicting important historical events. Located next to the south entrance of Herastrau Park, one of the biggest parks in Bucharest, it's conveniently reached by metro, stopping at Aviatorilor station.
