Whenever I think about places to visit in Thekkady, sights of beautiful hills, trees, elephants, deer, forests, waterfalls and spices start coming to my mind. It has always been a dream destination for nature and wildlife lovers. Located at an altitude of 700 m above the sea level, Thekkady is nestled between the evergreen and semi-evergreen forests of Western Ghats. Kerala Tourism Development Corporation has done a commendable work in not only preserving the ecosystem but also in developing and managing tourism in Thekkady.
The closest town to Thekkady is Kumily, which is just 4 km away. You can also reach Thekkady by walking or taking a shared taxi from Kumily, which is an excellent place to buy some handicrafts and spices. Also, accommodation options are relatively cheaper in Kumily as compared to Thekkady. The nearest airport is Madurai Airport (114 km) and the nearest railway station to Thekkady is Kottayam (114 km).
