Word to the wise: The Ace has a far wider than average range of rooms to suit all budgets, from bunk beds to loft-style suites.

The fact that some rooms at this midtown boutique hotel come equipped with vinyl turntables tells you what you need to know about the crowd it's aimed at. But if the last time you had an avant-garde hairdo was at the age of six when your mum cut it tipsy, don't fear - you'll still be allowed in, and you'll almost certainly love it.
Whilst communal areas have more than a hint of gentleman's club about them - wood paneling, Chesterfields, taxidermy - bedrooms are more raw and eclectically furnished. Think along the lines of white brick walls decorated with street art, Gibson guitars, Smeg fridges and similarly cool, high-end brands in the bathroom and mini-bar.

Its foodie credentials are impeccable, too: restaurants The John Dory and The Breslin are run by the people behind smash-hit gastropub The Spotted Pig, with cocktails courtesy of Milk and Honey.
