A barrage being constructed over the Chapora river in Goa is expected to be completed by December 2024. The barrage will add 250MLD of raw water to Goa's storage, ensuring no water shortages in the state. It will also prevent flooding in Sal and fulfill water needs in Bardez, Bicholim, and Pernem talukas. Another barrage is also being planned on the Chapora river. The water stored will help meet drinking water requirements during the winter months when raw water supply from Maharashtra is halted for maintenance. Several new water treatment plants are also being built in Goa.
