Karnataka Legislative Assembly Elections

The Karnataka Legislative assembly elections are scheduled to be held on May 12, 2018, to elect members from the 224 assembly constituencies of the state. The tenure of the existing Karnataka Assembly ends on May 28, 2018.

The counting of votes and announcement of result for the Karnataka Assembly Election 2018 will take place on May 15, 2018.

The previous Karnataka legislative assembly election was held on May 5, 2013, wherein five major political parties contested, namely: Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Janata Dal (Secular) (JD(S)), B. S. Yeddyurappa's Karnataka Janata Paksha (KJP) and B. Sriramulu's Badavara Shramikara Raitara Congress Party (BSRCP).

The Indian National Congress under the leadership of the erstwhile Janata Parivar leader Siddaramaiah won the Legislative Assembly Election of 2013 with an absolute majority of 122 seats (including the Piriyapatna seat), and formed the government in the state.

Karnataka Elections

On March 27, 2018 , the Election Commission announced that the elections in Karnataka will be held on the May 12 and the results will be out on May 15.
Like in the states of every democratic country, elections in the Indian state of Karnataka are a regular practice. Since 1951, elections are conducted in the state to elect members for Karnataka Vidhan Sabha and Lok Sabha. The state has total 224 constituencies wherein elections are held in five years in accordance with the Constitution of India.

This year (in 2018) the legislative assembly election are expected to be held during the months of April-May in order to elect members from the 224 constituencies.

Since years, Indian National Congress (INC), Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (Secular) (JDS) have been the most dominant political parties in Karnataka.
